Industrial clusters and sector-specific industrial zones to come up State Government to have a new industrial policy in three months Bangalore: The Department of Large and Medium Industries has decided to develop industries in and around 20 towns in 11 districts located along the 506-km stretch of the National Highway No. 4 from Bangalore to Belgaum to take advantage of the Chennai-Bangalore-Mumbai industrial corridor sanctioned by the Union Government. Giving details of the project to the reporters, Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said that the Department was carrying out a survey of the stretch. It would be implemented over a period of seven years. Meanwhile, the Department had taken up a feasibility study of the project. He said that industrial clusters and sector-specific industrial zones would come up in and around Athani, Raibagh, Hukkeri, Navalgund, Kalghatagi, Gokak, Sira, Devanahalli, Holalkere, Channagiri, Ranebennur, Hirekerur, Maddur, Magadi, Tiptur, Hosadurga, Challakere and Harihar. The Minister said that three companies have come forward to start steel plants in Bellary district to manufacture steel and sponge iron. Steel plants would be encouraged in Koppal and Raichur districts also. The promoters have been told to harness the rainwater to meet their requirement. Food processing zonesFood processing zones would be encouraged in Shimoga, Mysore, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Kolar, Bangalore Rural districts. IT and BT would get support in Mangalore, Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad and Belgaum districts. Mangalore and Udupi districts would be developed by expanding petroleum and petro-chemicals projects and the centre had been requested for the purpose. While Dharwad and Bangalore districts would get automobile industrial zone, readymade garments and hosiery sector would be developed in Bangalore, Bellary and Mysore districts. The State Government, he said would have a new industrial policy in three months after deliberating the issue with all stakeholders. The team of officers would visit Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat to study the industrial policy in those States.
