Andhra varsity triumphs

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University centre won the final against Pendurthi centre 20-2 in the final of a talent search tournament, conducted by the District Basketball Association, at the Port court here on Friday.

AU centre beat Police Mini-stadium centre 12-10 and Pendurthi defeated GVMC centre 20-10 in the semifinals.

Cricket players registration

The last date for registration of players of the I and II divisions of clubs league of VDCA has been extended up to June 21. However, the last date for registration for III, IV and V divisions remains unchanged (June 30).

Sabharwal scalps five

Medium pacer Anuj Sabharwal claimed five wickets to help Visakhapatnam gain an upper hand over East Godavari on the first day of the two-day round-robin match in the ACA North Zone under-19 inter-district tournament at the Port Stadium here on Friday.

Sabharwal and G. Ravi Chandra, who took three wickets, helped Visakhapatnam restrict East Godavari to 115 in its first innings.

The first day’s play in the match between Srikakulam and Vizianagaram could not be held due to wet ground conditions.

The scores: East Godavari 115 in 57.3 overs (M. Satyanarayana 55, Anuj Sabharwal five for 33) vs. Visakhapatnam 139 for four in 36 overs (M.U.B. Sriram 61 batting).

Pat for shuttlers

SAAP academy shuttlers Yuva Prudhvi Raj, V. Gandhara Rao, M. Archana and B. Subhashini were congratulated for their good show in the all-India junior ranking tournament held in Bangalore.

Gandhara Rao and Prudhvi Raj won the mini boys u-13 doubles title, while Archana and Subhashini emerged runners-up in the mini girls’ u-13 doubles event.

Krishna District Sports Development Officer B. Sudhakar and SAAP regional deputy director G. Chinnaiah praised their performances.

Kabaddi tournament

Vijayawada division will host the South Central Railway inter-divisional kabaddi tournament for men at Satyanarayanapuram railway grounds from July 3 to 5.

Nine teams — Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Nanded, Guntur, Guntakal, RPF, Headquarters and Carriage & Workshop will take part in the tournament.

The SCR team for the inter-railways championship will be selected on the concluding day.

TT tourney

The first major ranking table tennis tournament for the season will be held at YMCA (Narayanaguda) at Hyderabad from June 18 to 21, according to Andhra Pradesh Table tennis Association secretary S.M. Sultan. He said the AP youth boys and girls teams have been qualified to take part in the National Youth Games, scheduled to held at Bangalore from July 22 to 29. Nikhat Bano, Ch. Praneetha, Harshatul Shah, P. Vignan Reddy and Shubham Sharma will participate in the individual events.
