Dasavatharam enthrals Kochiites

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Spectators shook their heads in disbelief and die-hard fans searched for superlatives as actor Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus Dasavatharam created a flutter across cinema halls in Ernakulam on Friday.

Hundreds lined up hours before the inaugural screening to watch their favourite actor donning 10 roles in a movie that was termed as one of the ‘biggest’ in terms of money and pre-release hype. The same euphoria was last witnessed during the release of actor Rajnikanth’s Sivaji — The Boss.

Satyakanth, a movie buff and Kamal fan, struggled for words when asked to describe the movie. “I am sure that it is going to be a hit. The film is worth the hype. Kamal Sir has once again proved that he is the ulaga nayagan (universal hero)”.

Fans, who came to watch the movie on the first day, could not hide their excitement. Murukan, a labourer from Tamil Nadu, said that he had watched almost all the films of the actor. “I like him a lot,” he said. Youngsters, who waited for long in queues, wanted to know whether the hype would match the actual quality of the movie.

Movie buffs who could not make it on the first day were worried but called up their friends in other places to know more about the movie.

“I called up my friend in Coimbatore. He was really excited. And he told me that the movie has got a great opening in Tamil Nadu,” said Anantharaman, an employee with a private company here.

In Ernakulam alone, the movie is being screened in 10 centres.
