Toppers of polytechnics felicitated

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday presented gold medals to 50 toppers of polytechnics at a function organised at Delhi Secretariat. In addition, 44 students were presented silver medal and another 44 bronze medals.

Ms. Dikshit spoke about the expansion in technical education during the past one year and declared that the seats in polytechnics had gone up by 50 per cent and 33 per cent more applicants had appeared at the Common Entrance Test (CET) for polytechnics this year.

The Delhi Government, Ms. Dikshit said, was eager to impart employment-oriented technical education and ensure placement of students in reputed industrial organisations. She also announced that a separate institution for training in bio-medical and para-medical courses would be commissioned at Dwarka.

Also, a job fair would be organised for students who have passed out of polytechnics.

At a similar job fair -- Sopan -- organised by students who had passed out of it is, thousands of alumni had received job offers earlier this year, she said.
