NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for alleged involvement in the sensational robbery of Rs.34 lakh from a bank van near Kirby Place in Delhi Cantonment this past April. Two of his accomplices -- Mohammed Shahid and Arjun Singh -- have also been arrested along with him. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Gagan Cinema in Nand Nagari on Thursday evening and asked Sudir alias Kale and his accomplice Mohammed Shahid to surrender. But the duo allegedly whipped out their country-made pistols and opened fire at the police. The police team exchanged fire and arrested the duo after a brief encounter. Two country-made pistols and five live cartridges have allegedly been seized. During interrogation, Sudhir purportedly told the police that one Arjun Singh of Ghaziabad would come to the Sarai Kale Khan Inter-State Bus Terminus in the morning to deliver him a weapon and cartridges. A trap was laid and Arjun was arrested. Five live cartridges were allegedly seized from him. Suhir along with his accomplices Sanjay, Wazir, Aizaz, Dilip, Hansraj and Kala had intercepted a cash van of Mahamedha Bank and allegedly robbed the cash. The car used in the robbery belonged to Sudhir, the police said.
