THRISSUR: Kureepuzha Sreekumar’s poetry is a deep humanistic experience, poet Balachandran Chullikkad has said. He was addressing a meeting here to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the creation of Kureepuzha’s poem, ‘Jessy’. "Mr. Sreekumar makes sense of the world through love and shared human values. His works, written over three decades, have enriched Malayalam poetry," Mr. Chullikkad said. Writers Vijesh Edakkunni, Vaisakhan, P.V. Krishnan Nair and P.P. Ramachandran also spoke. The meeting observed that Sreekumar’s love poems, once the rage on campuses, were among the best in Malayalam. "They go beyond the simple propositions of romantic lyrics and explore a wide range of emotions and experiences," the meeting added. Mr. Sreekumar’s maiden collection of poems, ‘Habibinte Dinakkurippukal’, was published in 1984. His other books include ‘Sreekumarinte Dukkangal’, ‘Rahulan Urangunnilla’, ‘Amma Malayalam’ and ’Suicide Point’. He won the 1987 Vyloppilli Award for Malayalam poetry.
