BANGALORE: The UNESCO and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), in association with the Government of Karnataka, will organise two workshops in Hampi and Bangalore on World Heritage site management. The first workshop will be held at Hampi on June 15 on the theme ‘World Cultural Heritage Site Management in India’, while the one in Bangalore will be held on June 20 and 21 on ‘How to become and remain a world heritage site’. According to a press release from the Tourism Department, the objective of these workshops is to broaden and understand the World Heritage Convention and the nomination process of the heritage sites and their management. Top Indian heritage site managers, planners, administrators and professionals will use it as a platform to discuss the problems and opportunities in heritage site management. The focus will be on heritage site protection, conservation and management. FocusThe workshops will also focus on capacities of Indian heritage site managers and professionals to prepare site management plans and also to implement integrated management plans for each site. Topics such as commissioned studies to develop strategies for tourism; socio-economic studies; World Heritage Convention and its operating guidelines; scope and challenges of managing World Heritage sites, are some of the items on the agenda. The workshop at Hampi will be inaugurated by Minister of Tourism G. Janardhana Reddy in the presence of Health Minister B. Sriramulu.
