Iranian guards abducted

TEHRAN: Rebels from the Jundallah armed group, believed to have links to the Al-Qaeda, kidnapped 16 Iranian border guards and carried them across the frontier into Pakistan, the state news agency reported on Saturday. The incident, part of the low-level insurgency being waged in south-eastern Iran, took place even as Pakistan handed over four senior members of the group.

Bandits connected to foreign intelligence agencies kidnapped 16 border guards in an ambush on Friday and took them to Pakistan, said an official on Saturday. — AP
