MYSORE: Mayor Ayub Khan will lead a delegation of the Mysore City Corporation officials and councillors to New Delhi shortly to secure early clearance for pending Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) projects for the city. Participating in a “Meet the Press” programme organised by the Mysore District Journalists’ Association here on Saturday, Mr. Khan said the delegation would seek early clearance for eight projects worth Rs. 1,668 crore, including the Kabini drinking water project. Though the Kabini project was given in-principle approval two months ago, the Union Ministry of Urban Development, which clears the JNNURM projects, had sought a no-objection certificate from Union Ministry of Water Resources and a copy of the agreement between the MCC and State Irrigation Department for executing the project. “A fresh agreement was signed with the department recently,” Mr. Khan said. Giving an overall view of the JNNURM projects for the city, Mr. Khan said projects worth Rs. 2,743 crore had been proposed to develop urban infrastructure of Mysore during the seven-year period beginning from 2005-06. “We have secured clearance for six projects,” he said. Approval for eight projects was pending with the Centre, he added.
