Progress in Gujjar talks

JAIPUR: The talks between Gujjars and the Rajasthan government on the contentious issue of Scheduled Tribe status to the community appeared making some progress after the second day’s consultations here on Saturday. Both sides have decided to invite Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla to the next round.

However, amid optimism over the progress of talks, the BJP’s Kirori Lal Meena, strongman of the Meena ST community, submitted his resignation as MLA to the Speaker. “The past two days’ talks indicate that the State government has come under the pressure of the Gujjar community,” Dr. Meena later told journalists.
