City school students shine in Spelling Bee contest

Some 150 schools participate in the event



Students of the VT High School who have qualified for international Spelling Bee contest.

VISAKHAPATNAM: As many as 11 students of the V.T. High School have qualified for the international-level of the National Spelling Bee competition held in Chennai from June 3 to June 9, making it the only school in the State to have such distinction. The school has also bagged a number of national-level ranks in the competition.

Informing this at a media conference, Principal P.N. Rao said the students have brought glory to the school and five of them secured ranks in the national championship conducted by MaRRS International Spelling Bee in collaboration with Cambridge University Press.

“At the State-level championship too, we put up a good show bagging five State ranks out of which three are first ranks in different categories. We have high hopes for procuring good ranks in the international-level to be held on August 16 and 17 in Mumbai,” he added.

Rank holders

The national rank holders are Amulya Bhavana (7th rank), Prarthana Pathro (7th rank, category III), P. Ramyadatta- (8th rank), P. Rohit and A. Bharadwaj (15th rank). Abhishek Singh, B. Keshavi, B. Naga Sri Hari, Ashma, Abeline and Hymavathi were also among the qualified.

The national-level competition saw participation from 14 States and 150 schools. For the last six months schoolteachers were rigorously training the children for the contest.
