Collector inspects works taken up under NREGS

He enquired with workers whether they are paid wages properly


TIRUVANNAMALAI: Collector of Tiruvannamalai M. Rajendran inspected the works being carried out in different parts of the district under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) on Saturday.

The Collector inspected the work on the formation of a new tank, which was in progress in Thurinjapuram panchayat union at the cost of Rs.three lakh. Eleven male workers and 123 female workers were involved in the work. He enquired with them whether they were getting work every day, and whether they were being paid wages properly. Later, he inspected the works on formation of tanks in Seelappanthal and Mettur at a cost of Rs.three lakh each and the work of desilting the big tank and supply channel in Karuthuvambadi at a cost of Rs.4.68 lakh.

Mr. Rajendran then inspected the work on improvement to the tank in Devanampattu village at the cost of Rs.4.50 lakh under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT). He measured the length, breadth and depth and the capacity of the tank, and verified whether the improvement work had been carried out properly. He ordered the authorities to construct a granite wall around the tank. He inspected the group houses constructed in Devanampattu and assessed their quality.

He then inspected the work of deepening the tank in the village under NREGS at a cost of Rs.4.28 lakh. He also inspected the work on renovation of the tank in Mutharasampoondi under the AGAMT at a cost of Rs.3.60 lakh.

The Collector said that works to the tune of Rs.five crore were being carried out every week under the NREGS in Tiruvannamalai district. AGAMT works were being carried out in 171 villages in the district.

He asked the officials to ensure that the scheme was implemented properly so that the targeted sections fully benefited from it.
