DPC: row over list of works

Staff Reporter

ZP CEO fails to sign the list

Congress leaders ask CEO to sign approved list

Failing which they demanded CEO’s suspension

ADILABAD: In an unprecedented move, the Collector and member secretary of Adilabad District Planning Committee (DPC) Ahmad Nadeem kept in abeyance the resolution adopted by the forum at its meeting on Sunday with regard to approval of proposals for 2008-2009 under the Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF). This order came after ZP and DPC chairman Ramesh Rathod had announced the meeting as ended after having declared the resolution as adopted.

Having found that the list of works proposed for the current year to be taken up under the BRGF was not signed by the ZP Chief Executive Officer Puli Devaram, Congress MLC K. Premsagar Rao, MLAs N. Diwakar Rao (Luxettipet), Koneru Konappa (Sirpur), C. Ramchander Reddy (Adilabad) and MP A. Indrakaran Reddy demanded either the CEO be suspended for the mistake or he sign the list that was approved by the DPC. The Congress leaders expressed apprehension that the unsigned list would be modified to suit the purpose of the chairman and the TDP to which he belongs.

The CEO refused to sign on the list on the plea that he had not verified whether it was the same list that was approved at the general body meeting of the ZP on Saturday. The reason given by the CEO to refuse signing the list enraged the Congress leaders who wanted the officer to be suspended forthwith for ‘misleading’ the DPC. In order to resolve the issue however, Mr. Nadeem kept in abeyance the approval of the list. He asked the CEO to cross check the list of works approved at the ZP general body meeting earlier. In case of any discrepancy fresh approval will be taken later, he added.
