Widen bridge immediately

The Eluru Municipal Corporation laid blacktop road between Dr. Shariff’s Gulabi Thota, a posh locality, and Hanuman Nagar near Eastern locks, along the Krishna-Eluru canal bund. Between these two localities, there is a very old and narrow culvert without parapet walls. The road is across an irrigation canal, branching off from the main canal. Though this is a dangerous spot, there are no caution boards on either side. There is an urgent need to widen the narrow bridge, which is in a dilapidated condition. I request the Minor Irrigation Minister, who is from this town, to look into the issue.

Lopsided priorities

There is a sharp increase in the prices of commodities, putting additional burden on the common man. Almost every day, the price of one commodity or the other is increasing. One doesn’t know what the Central and the State Governments are doing to regulate the prices. Instead of taking steps to bring down the skyrocketing prices, the government too has hiked the prices of petrol and diesel.

I personally feel that lopsided priorities of our rulers are the main reason for the present crisis. Ironically, even now the rulers are focusing more on industrial development, instead of taking steps to improve the agriculture sector, on which most of the population is depending for livelihood.

Install Tikkana’s statue

Nellore town has many statues of national, State-level and local leaders. It would be in the fitness of things, as suggested by a literary critic, that poet Tikkana’s statue be installed in the town.

It is our responsibility to tell the younger generation about the contribution of our poets and writers to language and literature.

As one of the authors of the epic Mahabharatha’, Tikkana contributed a lot to the filed of literature. I request the Municipal Corporation to take the initiative at the earliest.

Waste of public money

Whenever a people’s representative quits office, a by-election is being ordered to fill the vacancy at the expense of the public exchequer.

It is certainly a criminal waste of public money. In the recent past, when the general Assembly elections are fast approaching, the Election Commission of India has ordered for by-elections to fill the vacancies in Telangana region, where the elected representatives put in their papers for political reasons.

There is an urgent need to find out a solution to this issue so that crores of rupees of public money would not be wasted on by-elections.
