Single-window system for PG admission in varsity

Special Correspondent

It is aimed at making the process less cumbersome

Gulbarga University will publish merit list

on July 16

Counselling will be held from July 19 to July 24

GULBARGA: The Gulbarga University will adopt a single-window system for admission to various postgraduate courses from this academic year. The system will be based on counselling.

Gulbarga University will be the second university in the State after Kuvempu University in Shimoga to adopt such a system for admission, sources in the university said here on Sunday.

This was aimed at making the admission process simple and less cumbersome for students, they added.

After the announcement of results of undergraduate courses by the end of this month, the university will start issuing application forms to those aspiring to take up postgraduate courses offered at the main campus here and at the postgraduate centres in Bidar, Sandur, Bellary and Raichur.

The sources said that students would have ample time to decide on the postgraduate course of their choice. The university would publish the merit list on July 16 and counselling would be held from July 19 to July 24, they said. Verification of marks card, allotment of hostels to students who would come from other places and receipt of fees would be done at one place and the admission process would be completed immediately, the sources said.

The university was planning to start classes for the postgraduate courses from July 28. In view of high demand for MA (English) course, the university has decided to set up English departments at the postgraduate centres in Bidar, Raichur, Bellary and Sandur. The university had decided to appoint guest lecturers as there was a shortage of lecturers, the sources said. The State Government had indicated that permission would be accorded by July-end for recruitment of a few lecturers in the university, they said. The university has also decided to start a postgraduate course in nanotechnology and postgraduate diploma courses in geoinformatics, theatre and literature at the main campus from this academic year.
