VISAKHAPATNAM: State Bank of India on Saturday opened new branches in Lankelapalem and Rushikonda. Deputy General Manager of the bank Kalyan R. Mohanty inaugurated the branches, which now took the number of SBI branches in the city to 47. Talking to reporters , Mr. Mohanty said that the SBI had introduced a new scheme to adopt bright girl students to encourage education among girls. Each branch would adopt two girls, he added. He also expressed happiness that the bank has a branch in Rushikonda now, as the place has become a hub for IT industries. Assistant General Manager Y. Vijaya Kumar said that both the branches had collected Rs.20 lakhs as deposits and released Rs. 8 lakhs towards car loans. Visakhapatnam RDO D. Venkata Reddy, branch manager N. Sambi Reddy also participated in the programme. Lankalapalem branch would also have an ATM, which would be set up in August, Mr. Mohanty announced. Branch manager Kota Srinivas, SBI Officers’ Association general secretary S.N. Sahu, SBI staff union assistant general secretary N. Sambasiva Rao and others attended.
