Andhra Pradesh
Though the government has announced that there will be no power cut during summer season, shutting down of power has become a regular feature in the city. One doesn’t know whether it is a power cut or power failure. In Srinagar colony near Satyanarayanapuram railway quarters, power breakdowns have become a regular affair, at least six times during day and night. Despite several complaints lodged with the complaints cell of the electricity department, no steps have been taken so far to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the area. N. Kripalani Satyanarayanapuram, Vijayawada Underground drainage worksThe authorities of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) have undertaken underground drainage works in several parts of the city, which is a welcome step. But, at the same time, the roads in places where the underground works are going are getting damaged. Since it is taking long time to complete the underground drainage works, people are facing several difficulties to travel on damaged roads. This problem is acute in residential colonies, where the roads are narrow and the vehicle population is comparatively high. The authorities should take immediate steps to complete the underground drainage works at the earliest. A. Pattabhi, Ajithsingh Nagar, Vijayawada Eateries lack hygieneThere are a numerous eateries and tea stalls in the city supplying foodstuff and beverages to the public. But, many of the owners of these stalls are giving least priority to hygiene and not taking proper care of the quality of drinking water being supplied to their customers. Onset of monsoon is the time for the spread of diseases, particularly diarrhoea. Though the government is trying to create awareness among people on how to keep their surroundings clean to prevent the spread of the disease, there is no one to explain the same to the owners of the food stalls. Officials of the Health Department should conduct frequent inspections on eateries and tea stalls to ensure hygiene.
Ch. Ramana Kumar Krishnalanka, Vijayawada Motorist’s nightmareThe Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao road bridge constructed on the Krishna at Puligadda is opened to traffic some two years ago. But still, lighting facility is not arranged on the bridge due to which vehicle drivers are facing several problems while crossing the bridge during night. The APSRTC has stopped operating buses during night on this route. The officials concerned are requested to take steps to arrange lighting facility on the bridge. I also request the officials of the RTC to operated at least Express buses on this route during night, keeping the problems of people in view. B. Ramkakrishna Rao Machilipatnam
