Student arrested for murder of pregnant woman
Staff Reporter
“He tried to rob Amutha of jewellery, but killed her when she shouted for help”
Chennai: The Avadi police arrested a college student on the charge of murdering a woman, who was found dead in her home five days ago.
Sasi Kumar, a student of a government arts college, allegedly murdered 21-year-old Amutha in her home at Panavedu near Avadi to steal her jewellery.
Police said he had confessed that he had killed Amutha, who was about two months pregnant, because he needed money.
Initially, police had interrogated Amutha’s husband Rajendran but their investigations led them to Sasi Kumar. Kumar was said to have recently married a girl whom he loved but did not have money to set up a home. He had tried to rob Amutha of her jewellery but had killed her when she shouted for help, police said.
