Orientation programme for Archakas

Special Correspondent

Training being given in Pancharathra, Vaikhanasa, Smartha and Saivagama

TIRUPATI: An in-service orientation programme for ‘Saivagama’ Archakas (priests) got underway here on Monday under the aegis of the TTD at its Sri Venkateswara Employees Training Academy (SVETA).

Rituals

Formally launching the training programme for the first batch of the Saiva sect Archakas, TTD’s Executive Officer, K.V. Ramanachary described that the temple priests as the conduits between god and the human beings and as such wanted that they should perform the rituals to the deities strictly on the lines prescribed in their respective Agama Sasthras without letting any laxity in their devotion and commitment.

Continuous process

He said the Archakas must make learning a continuous process not only to hone their skills in the priesthood but also to maintain a high order of spiritualism as the society held them in high esteem.

He said the Archakas in the State and elsewhere in the country must try to make good use of the TTD’s orientation classes and help it in spreading the ‘bhakti’ cult in the society. Director of the SVETA, B.S. Reddy has said that training was being given to the Archakas in temple Agamas like Pancharathra, Vaikhanasa, Smartha and Saivagama branches and added that the Academy has so far given training to 17 batches after the programme was launched in July last.

Among the participants were scholars like Veturi Prabhakara Sasthri, P. Chenchu Subbaiah and K.J. Krishnamurthi.
