Bidar
‘87 borewells have been drilled and pumps have been installed in 50 villages’ ‘In another 10 villages, borewells have been drilled and single-phase motors installed’ BIDAR: District in-charge of Bidar and Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Belamgi has ruled out the possibility of a shortage of fertilizers in the district. He was addressing a press conference here on Monday after holding a meeting on the availability of seeds and fertilizers with Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta and Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat J.C. Prakash. Mr. Belamgi said that there was a demand for 31,554 quintals of seeds in the district. Of this, 11,535 quintals had been supplied. A total of 8,575 quintals of seeds had already been distributed to farmers. He said that another 10,000 quintals of seeds would be supplied to farmers so that they could carry out sowing operations. On the availability of fertilizers in the district, Mr. Belamgi said that there was a demand for 8,900 tonnes of fertilizers. Till now 4,312 tonnes of fertilizers had been supplied. Mr. Belamgi added that Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd. (IFFCO) would be supplying 2,500 tonnes of DAP fertilizer and Coromandel Fertilizers would be supplying 2,500 tonnes before June 18. Regarding scarcity of drinking water in the district, Mr. Belamgi said 60 villages had been severely affected. He said 87 borewells had been drilled and submersible pumps had been installed in 50 villages. In the remaining 10 villages, borewells had been drilled, and in places with low water-table single-phase motors had been installed to draw water. He said that due to these steps taken by officials, the problem had been partially solved. Schemes had been drawn up to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problem. Mr. Belamgi said that suitable steps had been taken to mitigate the drinking water problem in Humnabad and Basavakalyan. In Humnabad taluk, 16 private wells and five tankers had been pressed into service to supply water to the residents. In Basavkalyan, five tankers were operating to supply water to the residents of the town. Mr. Belamgi said that he was on his first visit to the district after assuming charge as district in-charge. He said he would deal with the problems after familiarising himself with the situation and holding discussions with the district administration.
