BSNL casual staff on warpath

BERHAMPUR: Members of the BSNL Casual Employees’ Union of Berhampur telecom district launched indefinite dharna in front of the office of the BSNL in the city on Monday. On a simultaneous note, the members of the union began hunger strike in front of the Parlakhemundi BSNL office. The casual workers took up the path of agitation protesting against non-payment of minimum wages prescribed by the government by the public sector unit.

The irony is that some of the casual employees have served the BSNL for over two decades.
