HYDERABAD: In a move to control prices in the open market, the government has decided to sell rice at reduced prices to all households through special counters at the100-odd Rythu Bazaars in the State and at the rice mills. This was announced by Civil Supplies Minister K. Venkata Krishna Reddy after Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy reviewed the price situation at a meeting with senior officials here on Monday. Briefing reporters, Mr. Krishna Reddy said fine or grade-A variety of rice would be sold at these counters at Rs. 16 a kg and the common variety at Rs. 14 a kg. He said Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar would formally launch the sale of palm oil and red gram at reduced prices at Rs. 45 and Rs. 30 a kg respectively on July 14. LPG supplyReferring to measures taken to ensure timely supply of LPG cylinders to consumers, he hoped the delay would be reduced as the Centre had approved the opening of 205 more outlets, adding to the existing 888. The meeting decided to sanction 34 lakh more LPG connections under the Deepam. The Minister said implementation of the government’s subsidy of Rs. 50 on LPG cylinders to absorb the recent price hike on LPG was going on smoothly. Directive to officialsThe Chief Minister, he said, issued strict orders to officials to keep the open market prices of essential commodities under check.
