KOZHIKODE: A petition was filed before the Kozhikode Vigilance Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge here on Monday seeking to order an inquiry by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) into the source of funds and assets disproportionate to known source of income of K. Ajitha, former naxalite and president of Kozhikode-based Anweshi Women’s Counselling Centre, and her husband T.P. Yakub. Judge M.K. Kuttikrishnan will take up the case for hearing on Wednesday. The petition was moved by Raju Puzhankara, a human rights activist. Last week, Mr. Puzhankara had moved a petition before the Special Judge seeking to order a probe by the VACB into the former Kozhikode City Police Commissioner and Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Balram Kumar Upadhyay’s role in allegedly hushing up a rape case involving a jeweller. This petition will also be considered on Wednesday. The petitioner said the first accused Ms. Ajitha had started Anweshi several years ago to handle cases against sexual harassment of women and Mr. Yakub had been functioning as a “benami ” to this organisation. Ms. Ajitha had mobilised funds from the public in the name of running the organisation.
