Two antique idols seized

CHENNAI: The idol wing of the police has seized two antique idols in Nagapattinam district and Chennai and have arrested three persons.
R. Nataraj, Additional Director-General of Police, Economic Offences Wing, said that on a tip-off, a team went to Nagapattinam. Under the pretext of buying idols, it secured V. Vaithilingam, 57, of Vedaranyam on Sunday and seized a panchaloka idol of Lakshmi Narayana Perumal, which was valued at Rs. 25 lakh.
The police arrested B. Srinivasan, 28, a postgraduate dropout, of Thiruvidaimarudhur, in connection with the theft of a panchaloka idol in Vedaranyam.
A Vishnu idol was seized from R. Sellamuthu, 25, of Dindigul district on Monday.
Mr. Nataraj said Sellamuthu came to Chennai to sell it. The Rs. 10-lakh idol could have been stolen from a temple in Coimbatore.
