Grace beats Terasawa

GURGAON: Grace Hannah defeated Chika Terasawa of Japan 6-3, 6-2 in the second and final qualifying round to move into the main draw of the $10,000 ITF tennis tournament here on Monday. A steady spell of rain relented only in the afternoon, and the organisers were yet to finish the final qualifying round of the singles.

In doubles, however, the main draw started and Parija Maloo in partnership with Sung-Hee Han of Korea got past Shivika Burman and Sandhya Nagaraj in straight sets.

The results: Singles (second and final qualifying round): Nupur Kaul bt Dipti Srivastava 3-6, 6-1, 6-2; Vishakha Sheoran bt Radhika Jadhav 6-0, 6-4; Shahin Ansari bt Abhilasha Ahuja 3-6, 6-2, 6-2; Mu-Ying Chen (Tpe) bt Anushri Thammanna 6-3, 6-4; Renee Binnie (Aus) bt Tanvi Gupta 6-0, 6-1; Grace Hannah bt Chika Terasawa (Jpn) 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Sung-Hee Han (Kor) and Parija Maloo bt Shivika Burman and Sandhya Nagaraj 6-2, 6-1.
