MLCs seek justice for staff of unaided schools

Government urged to come out with a policy on salary

‘Appoint 3,000 teachers to Morarji schools’

Bangalore: Puttanna and Marithibbe Gowda, MLCs, have urged the Government to come out with a policy to ensure minimum salary for teaching and non-teaching staff of unaided private schools on a par with those in Navodaya schools.

They also called upon the Government to bring in legislation to ensure salary and other constitutionally guaranteed privileges and benefits to the teaching and non-teaching staff of unaided private educational institutions.

They told presspersons here on Monday that the Government was aware that a majority of unaided private educational institutions had not been paying proper salaries for their teaching and non-teaching staff.

The previous government was keen on evolving a comprehensive policy and even thought of bringing in legislation. Even as the process of evolving a policy was on, it fell. The new government should take up the issue and provide justice to those suffering at the hands of private managements, they said.

The MLCs demanded that the Government appoint 3,000 teachers for the Morarji Desai Residential Schools in compliance with the decision made by the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) government during its final days in office.

Contrary to the previous government’s decision, the BJP Government decided to appoint only 750 teachers. Besides, the Government had not clarified the position of those teachers already serving on contract basis.

The Government should regularise the services of 610 teachers, who have been working in Morarji Residential Schools for over five years, they argued.
