Kochi: A petition was filed in the Kerala High Court on Monday seeking to quash the order of the State Women’s Commission recommending to the State government to fix a minimum age for becoming nuns. The petitioner, Cyriac Varghese of Kasaragod, sought a direction to the government not to act on the recommendations of the commission and not to place it before the Assembly. The commission had recommended that a mechanism be put in place for rehabilitation of those who gave up nunhood and also urged the government to ensure that the share of family wealth was not denied to nuns. The petitioner contended that the commission had no jurisdiction to decide on religious matters such as canon laws. CBI probeA Bench comprising Justice K. Balakrishnan Nair and Justice M.C. Harirani asked a petitioner seeking CBI probe into the allegations against Santhosh Madhavan to approach the single judge concerned who is hearing such petitions. However, the Bench dismissed the plea of petitioner A.M. Varghese of Thiruvananthapuram for police protection to his life and property in view of the threat from Santhosh Madhavan. The court pointed out that there was no question of threat as the accused was in jail.
