CHANDIGARH: A condolence meeting was held in the Department of Sanskrit at Panjab University here to mourn the death of Prof. Ram Murti Sharma, who headed the department before his retirement. After his retirement from Panjab University, Prof. Sharma had served as Vice-Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University and Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi for a short period. A winner of the Certificate of Honour from the President as well as the prestigious Murti Devi Gyanpeeth Award, Prof. Sharma is known for several monumental works and research papers and sound scholarship in the field of Advaita Vedanta. The University Grants Commission had awarded him an Emeritus Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter and several grandchildren.
