Fishermen rescued

Staff Reporter

Tuticorin: Two fishermen from Threspuram village here, who accidentally fell into the sea while fishing in their country boat, were rescued and brought to the shore on Tuesday morning.

Police sources said that Anand Fernando (30) and S. Francis (28) ventured into the Gulf of Mannar during the early hours of Tuesday.

Both fell into the sea around 4.50 a.m., after they lost balance in the dark owing to strong winds in the region. While Francis was immediately rescued by fishermen from another country boat, Anand Fernando was saved by the personnel onboard Coast Guard patrol vessel, Naiki Devi, after about four hours.

According to Coast Guard sources, Anand Fernando was found exhausted 7.8 km off Tuticorin port. He was profusely vomiting when lifted into the vessel.
