Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial “Virtues of urban agriculture” (June 17). The world food summit’s prediction that urban populations are likely to be more exposed to rising food prices should be seen as an opportunity. The urban poor should be encouraged to start commercial farming and micro gardens. Urban agriculture is the need of the hour as changing food tastes and consumption levels can be met through this initiative to a large extent. The FAO has taken a positive step by advocating it. B. Muralidhar, Bangalore The urban masses can think of ideas of promoting agriculture instead of constructing malls and theatres. Few sections of the media educate the readers with such innovative and informative pieces. The Hindu deserves to be applauded. Rema Ravi Varma, Chennai
