KOLLAM: Congress leader G. Karthikeyan has said that a section of Malayalam writers are trying to hog the limelight by creating controversies. He was speaking on ‘Ezhuthinte Rashtriyam’ at the P.K. Thampi commemoration organised by the Kollam Press Club here on Tuesday. Mr. Karthikeyan said such writers were under the impression that they had the licence to besmirch anyone. At the same time, they felt that no one had the authority to say anything against them. They would even insist that society move along with them. However, their silence on sex scandals and mafia hegemony in the State is puzzling, he said. When the United Democratic Front (UDF) was in power, they came forward with joint statements on every issue; otherwise they turned a blind eye to everything. He said the UDF had offered all support to the drive against encroachments in Munnar. But when the government went slow on it, none of these writers issued a statement in protest.
