Corrections and clarifications

The fifth paragraph of a report “Surendra betters record” (“Sport”, Early editions, June 16, 2008) was “Sandip Kumar finished fourth in the men’s 10,000m in 2:17.97, also a personal best”. It should have been 29:17.97. (The report was on the Nike BMC Grand Prix at Watford, outside London.)

The ninth paragraph of a Ted Corbett report “Pietersen guides England to big score” (“Sport”, June 15, 2008) was “Pietersen’s 12th Test hundred only 10 days ago, his undefeated 40 in the Twenty20 victory 48 hours earlier and his previous five one-day centuries have all shown us what a devastating stroke player he is.” It should have been “undefeated 42”.

In a report “Maiden title for Eesha Karvade” (“Sport”, June 15, 2008), the first paragraph said that Eesha Karvade, who won her maiden title in the National women’s ‘B’ chess championship, finished with 8.5 points from 11 games after drawing with Pon N. Krithika in the final round. The standings column gave it as “1. Easha 8.” The text is right.

In the same report, the third paragraph said that “The trio and six others — Bhakti Kulkarni, Swati Ghate, Kruttika Nadig, Pon N. Krithika, Padmini Rout and Amruta Mokal — scored eight points each,” while the results column gave it as eight people finishing with eight points. Eight players tied for joint second place, and not the trio and six others, as published.

The standings “9-11. Aarthie and Divyasri 7.5.” should have been 10-11.
