Ceasefire deal

Atul Aneja

DUBAI: The Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire following Egyptian mediation.

According to the MENA agency, the truce would take effect on Thursday. It would begin with a three-day cessation of hostilities. If it works, Israel would open a border crossing to let in raw materials prohibited earlier to enter the coastal strip. In the second phase, the focus would be on the status of soldier Gilad Schalit who had been seized by militants two years ago.
