Markets extend gains
MUMBAI: The upswing in markets continued for the second day on Tuesday with the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex scoring more than 300 points on reports of higher advance tax payments by corporates and on favourable rainfall so far across the country.
Extending the gains to another day, the 30-share Sensex settled the day at 15696.90, a rise of 301.08 points.
Rupee up five paise
The Indian rupee gained over five paise at 42.89/90 against the dollar on Tuesday on a fresh surge in domestic stock markets.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee was trapped in a small range of 42.86 and 42.93 during the day after resuming firm at 42.90/91 a dollar. The rupee had closed at 42.9450/9550 a dollar on Monday. — PTI
