IYC chief hints at total revamp of organisation

At least five district unit chiefs in State to be dropped: Tanwar

Priority will be given to more talented people, says Tanwar

‘Aam aadmi ka sipahi’ programme to be launched in State

HYDERABAD: Indian Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar has hinted at revamp of the State and district units to bring new talent into the youth wing.

The IYC chief said on Tuesday that a new-look youth wing would ensure that the Congress party retained power at the Centre in 2009 elections by dropping all the non-performing Youth Congress office-bearers, initiating action against the errant leaders and strictly going by the age factor.

In Andhra Pradesh, presidents of at least five to six district units would be dropped for their poor performance.

“Some of them have to take up party programmes. Some others will have to be changed because they have crossed 35 years,” he pointed out.

Mr. Tanwar told reporters here after addressing the executive committee meeting of the AP Youth Congress that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is the in charge of IYC affairs, was determined to completely revamp the youth wing so that more talented people joined the Congress ranks.

“Our priority is to invite more professionals into the party set up and their talent will be fully utilised according to their capabilities,” Mr. Tanwar said.

He said the IYC has decided to launch ‘Aam aadmi ka sipahi’ (common man soldier) programme in Andhra Pradesh where in two Youth Congress activists would be identified in each Gram Panchayat and trained to help people access benefits accruing to them from the government.

Rahul to tour State

To a question, he said Mr. Rahul Gandhi, would tour Andhra Pradesh after two months.

To a query, he said only a few youths from the Congress party would join the proposed political party of film actor Chiranjeevi.

Earlier, APCC president D. Srinivas said the party would recognise the talented youth leaders and give them due importance in the next elections. State Youth Congress president T. J. R. Sudhakar Babu and IYC general secretary Shakir Sanadi were present.
