The event is being held to celebrate music as an art, says Alliance Francaise member

HYDERABAD: This summer solstice, Hyderabadis are in for a big treat. Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad and Alliance are to celebrate the World Music Day with a varied music programme of many genres ranging from North Indian classical music performance to rock music. The 45-minute musical session will be held on June 21 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC).

Briefing the media on Tuesday, Frederic Dart, Director, Alliance Française said that the event, was aimed at bringing together professionals and amateurs on one platform. “The idea is not to bring the top performers on one stage but to bring on the same platform with varied local musicians,” he said.

The ‘Fete de la Musique’, as it was originally known, was initiated in 1982, in France by Jack Lang, the then Minister of Culture of France, to celebrate their common love for music and has spread all over the world since then.

Amita Desai, Director, Goethe-Zentrum, felt that Hyderabad was now ready to for all kinds of music. “We want to take music closer to music lovers who want to understand music and to help recreate various talents. We want to develop appreciation for other genres of music,” she said.

Interaction

Participating artistes also expressed their happiness on being a part of an event “It is a nice platform for musicians to interact with other like-minded people,” said VeHaan, one of the artistes to perform at the event.
