Agitation for Rs. 1,000 MSP for paddy

HYDERABAD: The All India Kisan Sabha has decided to launch an agitation across the country in support of its demand for enhancing the MSP of paddy to Rs. 1,000 a quintal. The Kisan Sabha will stage rallies and demonstrations in different States till July 15 that will be followed by campaign on farmers’ issues in September and October.

The Sabha plans to mobilise over one lakh farmers for staging a ‘Chalo Parliament’ in November first week if the Government fails to concede its demand till then. Decisions to this effect were taken at the Kisan Sabha’s national council meeting between June 14 and 16 at Amravati in Maharashtra.

Briefing reporters about the meeting, Kisan Sabha vice-president Kolli Nageswara Rao said it was resolved to launch a signature campaign on the issues faced by farmers resulting in their suicides to mount pressure on the Centre. The Kisan Sabha demanded that the Government accept the recommendations made by the Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices.
