Warm gesture: M. Raghavaiah, general secretary, NFIR and SCRE Sangh presenting a memento to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy during the 25th biennial general body meeting in Secunderabad on Tuesday. HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday promised houses under the Rajiv Swagruha Scheme for employees of the South Central Railway (SCR). At the open session of the 25th general body meeting of the SCR Employees’ Sangh here, he had a good word for the one lakh and odd employees in the zone and said their work culture had contributed to the zone topping in performance indicators. Dr. Reddy explained the salient features of the housing scheme and said it was designed exclusively to cater to the needs of the lower and middle classes - those earning between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 20,000 a month, with different dwelling units and costs ranging from Rs. 6 to 30 lakh. UpgradationIn a competitive world, the Indian Railways had done well enough by adapting itself to constant upgradation of technology, delivering quality services to crores of people who used rail transport. It was important for employees to be seen as partners with government in development, than merely essay their roles as unionists constantly at loggerheads.Earlier, M. Raghavaiah, general secretary, SCR Employees Sangh and of the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) spelt out the successes achieved by SCR and also listed out issues before government for redressal. Issues included the 6th Central Pay Commission’s ‘negative recommendations’, need to remove ceiling in productivity-linked bonus, reduction of rate of increment, pay fixation on promotions and against privatisation, out-sourcing and down-sizing in Indian Railways. AchievementsPresenting the zone’s achievements, SCR General Manager H.K. Padhee said it had registered a growth of 20 per cent in originating revenue, 7 per cent in originating freight loading and 67.7 per cent of operating ratio per Rs. 100 earned. Others present were Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, presidents G. Sanjeeva Reddy (All India Indian Trade Union Congress president), Guman Singh (NFIR) and S. Muthukrishnan (SCR Employees Sangh).
