BHUBANESWAR: The Rs. 253.36 crore-dredging work of deepening the channel of Paradip port commenced recently. On completion of dredging, the depth of the entrance channel will be increased from 12.8 metres to 17.1 metres, a Paradip Port Trust (PPT) release said here. Big vesselsBy deepening the approach channel and entrance channel Paradip Port would be in a position to handle cape-size vessels of 1,25,000 DWT capacity, it said. The work is expected to be complete by June 2009. The total work includes 15 million cubic metre of dredging which includes 11.3 cubic metre of dredging in the outer channel and 3.7 million cubic metre of dredging from the turning circle and the harbour inside. Paradip Port Trust Chairman K Raghuramaiah inaugurated the commencement of the dredging work.
