Fertilizer in adequate quantity in Tiruvarur

TIRUVARUR: There is a stock of 6,000 tonnes of chemical fertilizers in Tiruvarur district, according to Collector M. Chandrasekaran.
He reviewed the fertilizer stock position at Thanjavur Co-operative Marketing Federation godown in Tiruvarur.
He told presspersons here on Tuesday that there was adequate quantity of fertilizers in godowns in Tiruvarur, Mannargudi, Sannanallur. The fertilizers include Di Ammonium Phosphate, Urea and etc,.
Water released
At present, 4,000 cusecs is released into the Vennar for kuruvai cultivation. It will be increased to 5,000 cusecs.
It has been planned to disburse cooperative loans to the tune of Rs.42 crore and nearly Rs.350 crore through nationalised banks for kuruvai season.
There is no problem in water reaching the tail-end areas as desilting works have been undertaken. PWD took up 147 works and desilted canals to a distance of 600 km at a cost of Rs.4.16 crore. Under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, desilting has been done to a distance of 3,255.28 km through 407 works at a cost of Rs.17.3 crore.
