Four persons arrested on charges of abduction
Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE: The Thirupadiripuliyur police on Tuesday arrested four persons on charges of abduction and illegal detention.
They have been identified as S. Muthukrishnan (24) of Echankadu, son of a functionary of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, Balamurugan (27) and Sathish Kumar (23) of Sathiyankuppam and Kirubakaran (24) of Devanampattinam.
The police said Muthukrishnan had approached Ramana Reddy of Kadappah with regard to jobs in Singapore for two of his friends and had paid Rs.2.50 lakh for the purpose.
However, there was no positive response from Ramana Reddy even after considerable time and he refused to attend their phone calls.
Muthukrishnan then contacted Ram Mohan (28), a friend of Ramana Reddy, who told him that he would be arriving in Chennai from Singapore on June 14. Muthukrishnan, along with his friends, picked Mr. Mohan up from the Chennai airport.
They took him to a house at Subbarayan Nagar in Cuddalore and kept him in illegal detention on the pretext that they would let him go only after getting back the money from Ramana Reddy. They also reportedly harassed Mr. Mohan.
Ramana Reddy, who came to know of the “abduction”, alerted the police. A special team traced Mr. Mohan and arrested the four.
