Anantapur
Venting ire: Students led by AISF activists protest in front of DEO’s office in Anantapur on Wednesday. ANANTAPUR: Activists of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) locked the office of District Educational Officer here on Wednesday in protest against the State government decision to introduce CBSE syllabus in 6,500 schools, where the medium of instruction has been changed to English from the current academic year. Led by State general secretary of the student outfit M. Vemaiah, district president I. Bayanna, district secretary B. Ramana and others, the activists took out a procession from the Guild of Service School to the DEO’s office after making the students to boycott classes and staged the protest. Speaking at the protest the AISF leaders said there were about 97,000 primary, upper primary and high schools in the State and the requirement was increasing with the increase in the number of children. Instead of setting up new schools the government had squeezed the number with merger of schools. Accordingly a G.O. (76) was issued to introduce CBSE syllabus in 6,500 high schools where the medium of instruction was changed to English. FacilitiesKadapa Special Correspondent adds: AISF activists picketed the DEO office in Kadapa and deputy DEO office at Proddatur on Wednesday demanding that the government give up moves to introduce CBSE syllabus in English medium in government schools. Nearly 6,500 schools in the State in which CBSE was sought to be introduced lacked proper facilities and teachers were not trained, AISF district president K. Mallikarjuna Reddy alleged. AISF district vice-president G. Madduleti demanded scrapping of G.O. 76. Meanwhile, AISF district secretary M. Bhaskar demanded at Proddatur that the government introduce English medium with State syllabus from the first standard and opposed CBSE syllabus.
