Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday urged Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to consult all political parties on the Statehood issue without adopting a “partisan attitude”. In a statement here, president of the NCP unit G. Sundaramoorthy said the party welcomed the government’s decision to send a delegation of legislators to Delhi to press for the demand for Statehood. “Evolve political consensus”The territorial government should come forward to evolve a political consensus on the issue and enable the representatives of various political parties to meet their leaders and Ministers in the United Progressive Alliance government to mobilise support for the demand. Mr. Sundaramoorthy said the administration had been “paralysed” owing to paucity of funds for implementation of development projects, including the construction of the government medical college and welfare schemes for fishermen. With a view to providing relief to consumers, the Tamil Nadu government had decided to provide a subsidy of Rs.30 per liquefied petroleum gas cylinder, announced the minimum support price of Rs.1,000 for paddy and released the list of beneficiaries under the loan waiver scheme announced by the Central government for farmers, he said. However, the Puducherry government was silent on these issues, he alleged.
