Devotees pull the temple car of the Vedapureeswarar Temple in Puducheery to celebrate ’Mangani Festival’ on Wednesday. PUDUCHERRY: A large number of devotees thronged the Vedapureeswarar temple here on Wednesday to celebrate the ‘Mangani’ (mango) festival. The festival was an annual event to commemorate the legend of Karaikal Ammaiyar, the lone woman saint among the 63 Nayanmars, giving away a rare mango to ‘Bikshadanar’ (Lord Siva). The temple car adorned with mangoes and carrying the idol of Karaikal Ammaiyar was drawn by the devotees as part of the festival. Mangoes distributedMangoes were distributed to devotees near the temple.
