Four of a family acquitted

New Delhi: A man, along with three of his family members, charged with killing his wife for dowry have been acquitted by a Delhi court due to lack of evidence.

“Even if it is presumed that a gold chain was demanded by the four accused, but the prosecution has miserably failed to prove on record as to in what manner, the deceased, Laxmi, was treated with cruelty by them on account of non-fulfilment of their demand,” ASJ Bharat Parashar said in a recent order.

The Additional Sessions Judge acquitted Laxmi’s husband Tejpal, brother-in-law Tara Chand, father-in-law Harish Chand and mother-in-law Kiran under sections 302 (Murder), 304-B (Dowry death), 498-A (Cruelty towards married woman) and 34 (Common intention to commit a crime) of the Indian Penal Code.
