ALAPPUZHA: Clashes between activists of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the district went one up on the violence scale with the District Congress Committee (DCC) office being attacked on Wednesday evening. The DCC office was pelted with soda bottles, stones, bulbs and debris, allegedly by activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) who were taking out a march protesting another march taken out earlier in the day by Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists. The police, who chased the attackers, arrested seven persons, all of whom were believed to be DYFI activists. District Superintendent of Police C.H. Nagaraju was pushed while trying to nab the attackers from near a Left-leaning union office near the District Court Bridge. The police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the rest of the attackers, Mr. Nagaraju said. The Youth Congress and KSU had taken out the march on Wednesday morning protesting the statements of Coir Minister G. Sudhakaran against UDF MLAs K.C. Venugopal, B. Babu Prasad and K.K. Shaju and the attack on their colleagues in Charummoodu on Tuesday night.
