Accreditation mooted for voluntary agencies

KOCHI: The Steering Committee on Voluntary Sector for the 11th Five Year Plan has suggested an accreditation process for voluntary bodies to make them accountable and their operations more transparent, said Syeda Hameed, Member of the Planning Commission, here on Wednesday.
She was inaugurating a national policy conference on Voluntary Sector and Economic Development, organised jointly by the Planning Commission, Kochi-based Institute of Small Enterprises and Development and the International Network on SMEs in Local Economic Development-India.
Talking to The Hindu, Dr. Syeda Hameed said there was widespread anxiety about the operations of some of the voluntary agencies in the country. “One bad apple can spoil the name of all the others,” she said even as she praised the commendable works done by voluntary bodies.
