DEVUPALLI (Vizianagaram dist.): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who initially wanted the AP Seeds Development Corporation to buy red jowar soon after the firing on farmers at Armoor on Monday, was going back on his promise now, alleged Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Wednesday. The firing on farmers was highly condemnable. But now, the Chief Minister had changed his mind as the Seeds Corporation refused to buy red jowar at the rate wanted by the farmers, Mr. Naidu said, while demanding that the government pay the money to farmers.

Price rise

Mr. Naidu, talking to reporters during his Mee Kosam yatra, said the party would be activated to fight against price raise, farmers’ issues, corruption and other issues concerning the people. Senior leaders would take active part in this programme. The TDP leaders reiterated that his party, if elected to power, would put a control on the sale of liquor and completely remove the belt shops. One could sell liquor but the way the government was trying to increase the sale was condemnable, as it would destroy one’s health and family, he said. Later, he addressed a public meeting on the ZPP High School premises here and promised showered sops on the people.

Mr. Naidu proceeded to Hondapalli, Mentada, Gajapathinagaram and other places. He would make a night halt at Manapuram.

The day’s programme started at Devupalli, native village of Gajapathinagaram MLA Padala Aruna. The TDP core committee on Telangana issue had also met here. Senior party leader and former Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, MLAs Ms. Aruna and Patiwada Narayanaswami Naidu, party’s district president Yedla Ramana Murthy, vice-president P. Ramana Murthy and others were present.

Classes for pupils of the High School were held on the upper primary school premises as the school was the venue for Mr. Naidu’s yatra halt.
