Discharge from Periyar dam stepped up

THENI: With comfortable storage in almost all dams in the district and in Periyar dam, farm activities in several parts of the district and power generation are in full swing.

Responding to the repeated requests from farmers, the PWD stepped up discharge further to irrigate 14,707 acres in Cumbum valley. Discharge from the dam was 400 cusecs.

Initially, 200 cusecs of water had been released from the dam on June 1, as construction of check dam at head works of 18th canal scheme was in progress. Later, water release was increased to 350 cusecs.
