CII finance forum to focus on mergers

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The India Finance Forum 2008 (TIFF), a flagship event of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), gets under way here on Friday.

It will focus on evolving a three-dimensional understanding of mergers and acquisitions.

TIFF will deliberate on the nitty-gritty of mergers and acquisitions and explore the process of clinching deals from the perspective of venture capitalists, investment banker and corporates.

The fourth edition of TIFF is being organised against the backdrop of the emergence of a new class of successful mentor-investors, increasing cross-border acquisitions that integrate Indian businesses with global scenario and the attendant deal structuring complexities.

Experts will also evaluate risks, opportunities and legal landmines in financial management associated with global acquisition by Indian companies. The event with the theme,

“Aspiring for growth and managing risk,” will feature an array of key speakers at seven sessions spread over two days. Besides a session on “Derivatives-Forex, Commodity and Interest Risk Management,” three case-studies involving Wipro, Sanmar and Murugappa Group are on the agenda.

Around 200 delegates, including a cross-section of founder-CEOs, investment and fund managers, bankers and managing consultants, are expected to participate.

“One of the thrust areas is to demystify business jargon surrounding high-profile deals and corporate buyouts,” TIFF chairman L. Ganesh told a press conference on Tuesday.
